Senators questions COMELEC's repetitive choice of Smartmatic

Some senators have wondered the company the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) always chooses in providing automated election system for the countries elections. It has always been Smartmatic. It is strange because the company have had many controversies and courts cases in the past.

Among those who question are Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto, Senators Nancy Binay and Panfilo Lacson.

The senators told COMELEC to consider other companies in providing automated systems with a better reputation for the May 2019 elections.

They were also surprised to learn that COMELEC will buy 97,000 use of vote-counting machines from Smartmatic.

According to Lacson, the COMELEC should seek other suppliers or contractors not only because it was not only once the integrity of Smartmatic has been questioned, but many times, and should not be neglected.

It was only before last week that Sotto disclosed the alleged anomalies that occurred during the election on May 9, 2016, where there were early and unauthorized transmissions of votes.
